Colwall is a Herefordshire village set on the Western slopes of the Malvern Hills. Our rural roads are shared with the many visitors who come to enjoy the area’s unsurpassed beauty.

Over recent years, local road conditions and speed limits have become a serious concern to many residents and regular visitors.

The Colwall Roads website was set up in July 2025 as a record of the current situation with Colwall’s road and to communicate – and celebrate – efforts to improve safety and accessibility for all residents and visitors.

Malvern Hills

The Western slopes of the Malvern Hills lie within the parish of Colwall.

Jubilee Drive – surely one of England’s most scenic roads – runs from The Wyche at its North end to British Camp in the South, with car parks where you can take in the stunning views across Herefordshire to the mountains of Wales and provide access to the hills for walkers.

British Camp

Nowadays, the iconic Herefordshire Beacon, also known as British Camp, towers above a very busy T junction.

Here you will find the famous Malvern Hills Hotel, favoured by Elgar and his companions; Rosies – a roadside kiosk with seating right by the road; a car park for visitors wishing to climb to the Herefordshire Beacon, and some public toilets.

In spring this area is swathed in bluebells – and awestruck nature lovers!

The Wyche

The Wyche Cutting is an ancient salt path hewn out the granite that connects Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Today it is a busy junction where visitors access the hill path to the Worcestershire Beacon. On the Worcestershire side, the popular Wyche Inn looks out over the Vale of Evesham and through the cutting (cross carefully!) is a distinctive Victorian bus shelter, a public loo, a green area with viewing benches and swings and often an ice-cream van too. The Wyche Cutting is a popular destination for cyclists and geologists, who can find refreshment and information at Cafe H20 and the Geocentre by the Wyche Innovation Centre.
